Faculty
Dr Eleni Moka was born in Athens, Greece in 1973. She graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece in 1996, and after her graduation, she completed her 5–year residency training in the Specialty of Anaesthesiology at Aretaieion University Hospital in Athens, Greece, followed by successful national board examinations in 2003.
From March 2004 until now, she works as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist in Heraklion–Crete, Greece (Hellenic HealthCare Group Institution – HHG), and she hold the position of Head of Anaesthesiology Department for the same time period. Her main topics of interest are Regional Anaesthesia and Acute Pain Management, Enhanced Recovery after Surgery, Ambulatory Anaesthesia, Chronic Post-Surgical Pain, as well as USGRA & TOE in Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anaesthesia.
She has received training during and after specialty completion in Regional Anaesthesia, PNBs application with NS and US, Pain Therapy and Palliative Care, Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and TOE Echocardiography, in Greece and abroad.
She supported her Doctorate Thesis in October 2010 and was awarded her PhD with Honours in June 2011 from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. In 2015 she was awarded her MSc in Health Care Management with Honours by the University of Cyprus (OUC). She is ESRA-DRA / former EDRA Diplomat (2015), following successful written and oral exams, and is about to complete her second MSc in Pain Therapy (Athens University, Greece).
She has authored chapters in Greek Medical Books, publications in national and international peer reviewed journals, whereas she has been invited speaker and instructor in many Greek, European or International congresses, with her work having also been recognized by awards for presentation of free papers or posters.
From September 2011 till 2015, she was member of ESRA Council, as the Greek Representative. In 2015 she has been elected ESRA Board Member for 3 years and from 2018 – 2022 she served as ESRA Treasurer. In September 2022 she was honoured by being elected ESRA President Elect, with her term as ESRA President having started in September 2023. She has served as EDRA Board Member for the period 2013 – 2019. Currently she continues her involvement in the Diploma activities as EDRA examiner.
As ESRA Major Officer, she has supported many already established initiatives, including organization of ESRA annual congresses, World Day and World Week of RA &Pain Medicine, as well as organizational structure of the society (new logo, manual of Vision, Mission, Core Values, Strategy, ESRA History book, Certification of ESRA according to ISO 9001, etc)
Currently she is also serving as Vice Chair of ESRA Hellas, the zone of ESRA in Greece and Cyprus.
She has been reviewer and member of Editorial Board in international journals, including RAPM, and has participated in single and multi centre trials during the previous years, She is an enthusiastic and passionate RA teacher that loves to disseminate topics related to her scientific interests.
